Double Chooz first word on theta(13): Seminario Dr. Anatael Cabrera:

Speaker: Dr. A. Cabrera (IN2P3 Paris, France) . Title: "Double Chooz First Word on Theta13" . Abstract: The Double Chooz neutrino oscillation experiment has released its first preliminary results on theta13 in LowNu12 conference (Seoul, Korea). The Double Chooz experiment relies on nuclear reactor neutrinos propagating over 1km till the far-detector to measure neutrino oscillation via disappearance. A slight deficit of the expected neutrinos has been measured. The deficit is consistent with a positive theta13 oscillation signal. The significance of the measurement is <2sigmas. However, this measurement is consistent with several pieces of evidence (with similar level of significance), all pointing, if correct, towards a rather "large" value (around the CHOOZ bound) of theta13. The combined evidence suggests that theta13 is not null to >3sigmas. In this seminar, I will describe how the Double Chooz collaboration has performed the released measurement, the exciting scenario regarding theta13 and, also, the possible improvement by Double Chooz in the very near future.
