Description
Proton beam therapy, an advanced form of radiotherapy, enables tumours to be targeted with greater precision, reducing the collateral damage to surrounding healthy tissue.
From particle accelerator to quality assurance (QA) detector systems, all the technology that we currently use for proton beam therapy has come from pure high energy physics research. A detector is currently under development at University College London to provide fast and accurate proton range verifications.
In this talk, the crossover between high energy physics and applied research in cancer treatment is discussed, and the design of a QA Range Calorimeter is presented.
Speaker: Dr Raffaella Radogna | University College London
